Day 6 & 7

The KOA was hosting a pancake breakfast for Memorial Day weekend so we got a good breakfast to start out the day. We headed towards Renee's daughter's apartment in Denver after a nice long stop at Target! I gotta get my fix before I don't see one for probably 3 years!

Once we got to April and Dave's we found a parking spot for the trailer and the motor home and loaded into the Yukon to grab a bite to eat at Panera Bread.

Next we headed up Mount Evans which is the highest paved road in North America. 14,270 feet! We wanted to take up just the truck because the trailer and motor home would have probably not made it! I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't allowed anyway. That was a treacherous road! Its closed all winter and just opened this weekend for Memorial Day. We really wanted to see some mountain goats but all we saw were a few marmots. It was howling winds and freezing cold at the top. With the wind chill it was only 2 degrees. We, of course, were not prepared. We should have had our hats and mittens and heavy coats, but instead only had light sweatshirts. Needless to say, we only stayed outside long enough to snap a photo before we got back in the car and headed back down. The lack of oxygen really got to me. I had a pounding headache and was really dizzy. The kids did really well the whole time but they were another reason why we didn't stay up at the top for too long. The view was spectacular towards the west. The clouds were howling up over the east side so we couldn't really see too too well.

Papa bought T-shirts for me and Lance, a bald eagle bobble head pen for Sophia and a lifted VW Peace Van for Brett. Lance indulged himself with a nice piece of mile high apple pie.

We left George and Renee with April and Dave along with the motor home and trailer, and took off for Boulder, Colorado in the Yukon, to visit our friends Casey and Jay.

We arrived at their beautiful home in time for a relaxing dinner on their patio, finished with a nice landscape, and a rock water feature, overlooking a golf course. Just what we needed at the end of the day.

Monday was Memorial Day and the city of Boulder was having their annual Boulder Creek Festival. After a nice breakfast, we got ready and headed out towards town. We walked around the festival for a bit and Sophia wanted to get her face painted. She picked the rainbow heart which lasted all of about an hour before it was wiped all over my shirt. It was cute while it lasted! She fell asleep so we walked around some more, went shopping and ate

lunch at Rio Grande for some delicious Margaritas! We headed back to the festival where Brett finally took a nap and Sophia finally got to jump in the bounce houses that she had been begging us to find all day. She also rode on a little ferris wheel all by herself. The rides were of course a bit over priced, but she had a blast so it was all worth it! Next was the Duck Race! They released about 4000 rubber ducks down the creek which were all numbered. You could bid on the ducks to win prizes but we missed the opportunity to do so.

We were invited with Casey and Jay to a bar-b-q at their friends Ted and Natalie's home. They had two boys, Cubby and Tig, who had to be the two sweetest boys I've ever met. Tig and Sophia got along so well, Tig even wanted Sophia to sleep over! They had the cutest home in the historic district of Boulder. It was the perfect evening, with great great food and great great company.

We were listening to Dave Matthews Band on Pandora Radio and it turns out Ted is good friends with Dave! I couldn't believe it! I could have sat there and listened to Ted tell stories about him for hours! Ted was the band manager for the band The Samples several years ago when the Dave Matthews Band opened for them.

We are so grateful to have such great friends living in this part of the country. The beauty is just indescribable. You have to experience it for yourself to really appreciate it.

Thank you Casey and Jay for taking us in for a few nights!! You're the best!!

I was hoping to have posted a bunch more pictures from this weekend, but unfortunately, you will find out soon, why I am unable....
